Biography
I am a urologist at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and serve as the medical director of the Urology Clinic at the Eye and Ear Institute. As a general urologist, I diagnose and treat patients with a variety of conditions. I specialize in treating men with voiding dysfunction disorders such as benign prostatic hyperplasia, overactive bladder, prostatitis and pelvic floor dysfunction, and I perform vasectomy procedures.
I am passionate about improving my patients’ lives and enhancing the quality of care. I strive to provide personalized care for every patient, and I work with them to create customized treatment plans based on their goals and priorities.
My research experience began as a cancer epidemiologist at the American Cancer Society. During that time, I developed a strong interest in identifying and addressing factors that contribute to cancer incidence and mortality, including tobacco use and racial disparities. This population-centric view in epidemiology inspired me to pursue a career as a clinician, where I could interact with patients and impact patient care and outcomes on an individual level. My current research work is focused on patient satisfaction, physician and hospital quality ratings, and the impact of smoking on surgical complications. My work has been featured in peer-reviewed publications such as the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), Journal of Urology, and Journal of the National Cancer Institute (JNCI).
When I’m not working, I love spending time with my family and playing golf. I also enjoy woodworking and traveling.

My research experience began when I worked as a cancer epidemiologist at the American Cancer Society after training in epidemiology at the Emory University Rollins School of Public Health. During that time, I gained a personal interest in identifying and addressing factors that contribute to cancer incidence and mortality, including tobacco use and racial disparities. This population-centric view in epidemiology then led me to pursue a career as a clinician, where I could interact with patients and impact patient care and outcomes on an individual level.
Following medical school at the University of Michigan, I completed my urology residency at Northwestern University. During this residency, I completed a research fellowship in the Surgical Outcomes and Quality Improvement Center and focused my research on patient satisfaction, physician and hospital quality ratings and the impact of smoking on surgical complications.
As a urologist, my work has focused on identifying measures and interventions to improve the quality of care that we provide patients with both benign and malignant urologic conditions, especially those undergoing surgical procedures. I am also interested in measurement of hospital and physician quality in the form of publicly reported hospital and physician ratings. I believe it is important to understand both the strengths and limitations of these systems to better inform the patients who use these rating systems to guide where they seek care.
I appreciate the commitment to innovation here in The Ohio State University College of Medicine, and the readily available resources that allow me to pursue highly complex research.
