Biography

Despite receiving a bachelor’s degree in Speech and Hearing Science, it was not until I moved to South Korea to pursue a position as an English instructor that I realized just how invaluable communication can be to one’s quality of life. Returning to the states, I pursued a Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology. While in graduate school, I developed an interest in cognitive-linguistic evaluation and treatment of the neurogenic population. I took this interest to the state of Georgia, where I worked at one of the longest-standing rehabilitation hospitals in the country, as founded by former president Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Here I honed in on my skillset in the area of dysphagia evaluation and management. I currently serve on Dodd’s Brain Injury team, where I enjoy the challenge of creating personalized, yet functional therapy tasks for my patients. I am a member of both the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA), as well as Special Interest Group 13: Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders. Outside of the clinic, I enjoy playing volleyball, biking and adding stamps to my passport.

Consulting and related relationships

At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.

As of 11/3/2025, Kelly Schardt has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
