Physician, Assistant Professor
Pediatric Neurology
Department: Neurology
I am a neuroimmunologist who specializes in evaluating and treating neuroimmune disorders of the central nervous system, including multiple sclerosis (MS), myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody associated disease (MOGAD) and neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD). I also serve as co-director of the Neuroimmunology Program at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
I chose this field because I am inspired by the resilience that patients with neuroimmune conditions demonstrate. I am committed to providing comprehensive, high-quality care to these patients throughout their lives.
As an adult and pediatric fellowship-trained neuroimmunologist, I am passionate about our Transition of Care Program that prepares adolescents for the transfer to adult care. I prioritize a collaborative approach and empower my patients to take charge of their care as they move to the next phases of their journeys. It is important for me to ensure we are supporting our patients at such a pivotal point in their personal and professional lives.
I believe it is important to focus not only on the symptoms of neuroimmune conditions, but also the psychosocial impact of these conditions on patients and their families. I am actively involved in patient advocacy organizations to ensure we are providing the best patient education and support for families affected by these conditions.
In addition to my clinical responsibilities, I am actively involved in research efforts to enhance our care of, and improve quality of life for, our patients. My current research focuses on evaluating the clinical aspects of NMOSD and the psychosocial impact of MS and optimizing transitions of care from pediatric to adult neuroimmunology. I also serve as an assistant clinical professor of Pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine.

At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 11/3/2025, Dr. Poisson has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
