Academics and research
As a member of the Molecular Carcinogenesis and Chemoprevention Program at the OSUCCC - James, I focus my research on nutrition, phytochemicals (namely ellagitannins) and cancer prevention.
I have studied the implementation of a black raspberry food product in men undergoing an elective prostatectomy for curative treatment of their prostate cancer to elucidate the effects of intervention diets involving polyphenols. I am now working on the implementation of the Phenol Explorer Database for estimating dietary polyphenol intake to assist with dietary interventions for cancer prevention.
Additionally, I am working to establish a research program focusing on host-pathogen interactions through the analysis of the colonic microbiome and the role of nutrition in this interaction.
I have co-authored numerous publications in such peer-reviewed journals as Molecular Nutrition & Food Research, Digestive Diseases and Sciences, and World Journal of Gastroenterology, and I have been invited to present my findings at national conferences.
