I received my medical training from the University of Western Ontario, and I completed my residency in obstetrics and gynecology at McMaster University. I’ve been named to Woodward White Inc.’s "Best Doctors in America" list since 1992 and was rated in the top 10 percent of physicians in the nation for patient satisfaction in 2016. I was also named to the Castle Connolly list of “America's Top Doctors” from 2000-2018.

I have served in leadership roles in national organizations. In 2006, I served as the president of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology. From 2010–2014, I served as president of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and in 2015, I served as president of the American Gynecological and Obstetrical Society.
