About Me
I am a medical oncologist who specializes in the treatment of breast cancer, one of the most common types of cancer in women in the United States. Before my arrival at The Ohio State University, I ran a breast cancer clinical practice at Washington University in St. Louis. To see patients who benefit from the tremendous technological advances we have made in breast cancer therapy is a unique privilege. However, many of our patients continue to suffer from types of breast cancer where the progress has been slow. It is these patients who motivate me to continue to search for newer therapies.
I have extensive experience in the care of breast cancer patients on clinical trials and aim to use my bench research experience to translate the wealth of genomic and expression data into clinically effective therapies for breast cancer.
As a member of the Cancer Biology Program at the OSUCCC – James, my research focuses on the pathogenesis of endocrine resistance in metastatic breast cancer and the design of therapies to target patients who have progressed while on first-line therapy. I am also interested in identifying novel signaling pathways that can be targeted to improve outcomes in breast cancer, as well as anticipating potential side effects of targeting these pathways in patients.
In addition to my research work, I am committed to educating future physicians and researchers as an assistant professor in the Department of Medical Oncology. I am also a proud member of the American Society of Hematology, which awarded me the Research Training Award for fellows in 2012.
Almost everything I have learned about medicine has resulted from my interactions with my patients, who motivate me every day to expand my knowledge of cancer and think about how new therapies can be designed to improve outcomes. I aim to use my training in cancer biology to understand my patients’ symptoms, anticipate and treat side effects, and find appropriate clinical trials for my patients. The OSUCCC – James is unique in that it consists of collaborative teams that bring together physicians of diverse specializations to provide excellent care and also go beyond that standard to ensure patients are getting the latest treatments available, because there’s no such thing as routine cancer.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.

Care provider was substituting for my regular oncologist. He came to me after I went to the area waiting for treatment and mentioned a referral that he would make for me. Even though my appointment was completed, he was still thinking about my situation.
Very thorough!
Always awesome
I appreciate that all my providers take the time to listen to my questions and concerns
Seem to be in a rush sense he was so far behind. However, I did not have any issues that was too concerning
Dr. Cherian reviewed my records from FMC, answered all my questions thoroughly, and gave me information to ease my concerns.
Dr Cherian has been wonderful every time I've met him. I'm so grateful for his care and concern for my situation. Listens to all my questions and spends whatever time he needs to make sure I understand what he is sharing. Very grateful.
Dr. Cherian was very attentive, answered all my questions, and gave me an update about the process leading to the end of my treatment.
