Megan Quintana, MD

I am Megan Quintana, MD, associate professor in the Department of Surgery at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. I specialize in trauma surgery, surgical critical care, medical education, and team performance. My research focuses on advancing trauma care, and also on surgical critical care, physician training, interprofessional collaboration, and educational innovation.

As a member of the Division of Trauma, Critical Care and Burn, I am committed to improving outcomes for patients with traumatic injuries while advancing the education and development of future surgeons. My work bridges clinical practice, research and education, with a particular focus on trauma systems, prehospital care, surgical training, and the factors that influence team effectiveness in high-acuity environments.

At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, I serve as program director for both the Surgical Critical Care Fellowship and the Acute Care Surgery Fellowship. In these roles, I oversee physician education, curriculum development, mentorship and continuous program improvement, while helping prepare the next generation of trauma and acute care surgeons. I also serve as director of EMS Trauma Education and Outreach, where I work to strengthen collaboration between prehospital providers and the trauma center and expand trauma education across the region.

My academic interests have been shaped by the belief that delivering exceptional patient care and educating future physicians are inseparable. I am passionate about creating learning environments that are collaborative, psychologically safe, and focused on continuous improvement. These principles guide my research in medical education, leadership development, team performance, and quality improvement.

I also maintain an active research program focused on trauma, surgical critical care, medical education, and team performance. My work includes peer-reviewed scholarships, invited national and international presentations, and grant-funded educational research. Through both research and mentorship, I strive to advance the field of trauma and acute care surgery while supporting the growth and success of learners, colleagues, and healthcare teams.

My professional highlights include serving as program director for both the Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery Fellowship programs, national leadership in trauma surgery organizations, recognition as an award-winning educator and mentor, development of innovative educational programs in trauma surgery and simulation, and the continued expansion of a research program dedicated to improving trauma care, surgical training and healthcare team performance.
