About Me
As a transplant hepatologist at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, I specialize in the care of patients with advanced liver disease and cirrhosis and perform a variety of endoscopic procedures including colonoscopies, upper endoscopies, the placement of feeding tubes, and esophageal dilations. When I’m not treating patients, I provide instruction on liver disease and lead small groups of medical students in clinical practice. In addition to teaching, I enjoy conducting outcome-based research on patients with liver disease to improve patient care.

At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. Since I have been under the care of Dr Wellner, I am so grateful.
I see my liver transplant doctor regularly, but now I need a new kidney. Dr. Wellner has taken measures to ensure my liver can survive the surgery so I can get on the list.

Dr. Wellner is a remarkable physician. This was my first experience with him. He made an indelible positive impression. He was very communicative, very clear and very thoughtful. He answered our questions directly avoiding unnecessarily technical terms. When he couldn't answer a question he said so and explained the reason. A couple of my questions involved another area of practice. He made sure though to point out an upcoming appointment I have with a colleague of his who could answer the question and he made a point of sending a message to alert the colleague -- Dr. Krishna.
