Biography
I am an anesthesiologist specializing in pain management at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. I see patients for conditions including back pain, spinal fractures and diseases, basivertebral nerve ablation, isolated joint pain, nerve injury, extremity pain, painful neuropathy, cancer-related pain, and failed back surgery syndrome.
My patients can expect an evidence-based approach tailored to their specific needs. I incorporate emerging approaches and well-tested methods to improve each patient’s quality of life and ease their pain. I also strongly believe in a multidisciplinary approach to patient-centered care, so I involve patients, their families, and their other health care providers in treatment decisions.
My research interests include nerve blocks, spinal cord stimulation, peripheral nerve stimulation, vertebral augmentation and clinical research methodology and epidemiology. I have authored more than 130 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals in the field and have presented my work nationally and internationally.
I help educate the next generation of providers in my role as an assistant clinical professor of Anesthesiology at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and as the associate residency program director for Anesthesiology.
I have been recognized for my contributions to clinical care and education. I am a top-searched anesthesiologist per Doximity Rankings, and within the Ohio State College of Medicine, I was named Clinical Educator of the Year for the Department of Anesthesiology in 2024.

At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. First time I truly understood what was causing my back pain. Showing a video MRI of a healthy lumbar spine and then showing mine in action for comparison was so helpful. I appreciate understanding what was happening with my lumbar nerves and causing pain and walking problems. I felt that Dr. Hussain knew exactly what might help In specific terms.

Bad experience after checkout. My legs were'completely numb so they put me in a wheelchair and said goodbye. No instructions were given on how to get into the car and we were left to our own devices. I can't tell you how difficult this part of our trip was.
I thought he was wonderful! He was kind, new about my past history, has medical info right in front of him. Explained everything about my sciatica and noted I had it before. Knew what he was doing, with a smile and sincerity.

Dr. Hussain was extremely knowledgeable and supportive of my situation. He discussed options with me and answered all my questions.
It was a little odd. One of the first questions was "what are you wanting to do?" and I was surprised. I don't even know what is wrong, how could I know what to do? He then had me perform a bunch of tests but didn't clearly explain them and seemed frustrated when I didn't understand what to do. It felt like each test barely lasted a few seconds, so I felt my back pain wasn't being taken seriously. I've also been waiting 5 days for a message about my results, which came in an hour after my appointment. Very frustrated.

I was very nervous and anxious about this appointment. But when the Dr walked into the room and introduced himself, I just got a good caring friendly vibe from him that made me feel at ease. He was very knowledgeable about why I was there. He had already discussed my condition with my Dr that referred me to him but he wanted me to tell him what had been going on and any questions and concerns that I had. And he addressed them all. I had a new issue happening with my right hip and leg, had already reported it to my main Dr and he had already informed this Dr at your facility about it. And he told me what was causing it and what he was going to do to try and help it as well as the issue I was already having with my right hip and right leg. I would recommend him to anyone.

Dr. Hussain is absolutely THE BEST provider I could have ever hoped for. He's compassionate, professional and discusses options for my treatment which he believes will be best for my treatment. He is actually such a good doctor that I'm afraid someone in a prestigious hospital somewhere across the country in a better city (Columbus stinks) is going to snap him up, pay him millions, and I'll never get to have him treat me again. That gives me nightmares!

I appreciated that I didn't feel forced to try failed treatments, but I dont feel like much was done for me except a very quick check up
Dr Hussain is very good. But he is always rushed when I asked questions. There was a difference between what he said and what was in my chart. That is a concern. Only found it out by asking direct questions of Dr Hussain. Had to continually ask and veridy that the correct location was addressed. Should not have had to do that

Dr. Hussain is my hero!! I was experiencing terrible pain down my leg. Now, after my injection, my pain is just about gone. I would highly recommend him to everyone.
I felt he rushed me through and sent me for a back brace without explaining how and why to wear it. He never responded to my Mychart message requesting guidance about the brace.
The care provider didn't have any recollections of where my imaging was even though I'm a patient at OSU he had three months to look up my imaging and everything and did nothing.

Dr. Hussein's examination and recommended treatments were clearly communicated. He accepted and understood my reasons for wanting to defer injections, and his order for CT scans gave me more confidence that he would analyze my condition further.
Left with the same pain I went there for. He had my MRIAnd CAT scans. He knew the problem and never treated the areas of pain. First visit I had to go get my primary care to give me something for severe pain, which was shot and 6 day steroids. Second visit He was told by my neurologist to give me steroids in the neck, he had my tests, but he went C7- T1 and I left in same as I came.

Dr Hussein spent "maybe" 5 minutes with me in total. Another provider came into my room and did the initial assessment. She said she would speak with Dr Hussein and he would be in. He entered the room l, asked really no further questions regarding the extreme pain I was in. Asked if my previous injection was what I felt worked the best. Stated he would put in a referral for the injection and walked out the door.

He removed staples from my surgery. He did a great job and caused little pain. I was frustrated because I was told that they would be filling my pain pump at this appointment. He apologized for the miscommunication which was nice but it wasn't his fault.
