Biography
As an acute care surgeon, I specialize in managing trauma, emergency general surgery and burn injuries, supported by advanced training in critical care. I am the director of the Division of Trauma, Critical Care and Burn at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. I care for patients from the moment they arrive at the hospital – whether they are in the operating room, intensive care unit or on the surgical floor – until the day they are discharged.
What makes acute care surgeons unique is the breadth of our expertise and the range of conditions we treat across the human body. In a single day, I might perform open-heart surgery for a gunshot wound, relieve a small bowel obstruction, and treat a severe leg infection. This scope allows us to respond swiftly and effectively to life-threatening situations, wherever they arise.
I came to the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center to lead the Division of Trauma, Critical Care and Burn because I believed in the division’s amazing potential. We are delivering care at the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center that sets the standard in the region, and we are exploring innovative techniques and research that elevates care around the world.
When I am not working, I enjoy sports, live music, building furniture, and guitars – but mainly, spending time with my family.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 11/3/2025, Dr. Mowery has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
