Biography
My work in gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition includes specialized care for colon cancer prevention. I help patients with genetic conditions who are predisposed to the development of colon polyps or cancer. This includes a multidisciplinary approach with other team members to provide optimal diagnostics and long-term care.
I believe in providing care that is personalized and state of the art, while also maintaining the crucial personal relationship with my patients.
There are many things I enjoy about practicing medicine at Ohio State. I appreciate the element of continued learning that comes from being at an academic hospital on a great campus. It provides valuable opportunities to collaborate across specialties and disciplines. This team approach allows us to offer better patient care.
In my free time, I enjoy relaxing with family and watching the Columbus Clippers.

Academics and research
As a board-certified gastroenterologist, my clinical and research focus is on hereditary gastrointestinal cancer syndromes and colon neoplasia. I also serve as an associate professor in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition at The Ohio State University.
My clinical practice includes collaborating with genetic counselors to diagnose patients with hereditary gastrointestinal cancer syndromes as well as longitudinal care of patients with hereditary gastrointestinal cancer syndromes or a history of high-risk colon neoplasia. I also have an endoscopic practice focused on colorectal cancer screening and surveillance including regional referrals for complex or difficult colonoscopies due to anatomy, number of polyps or size of polyps.
As a member of the Molecular Carcinogenesis and Chemoprevention program at the OSUCCC - James, my research is geared toward developing strategies to enhance the clinical care we can provide to patients with colon neoplasia, hereditary gastrointestinal cancer syndromes, and unexplained colon polyposis. I am committed to advancing treatments for conditions including Cowden syndrome, Lynch syndrome, familial adenomatous polyposis, Li-Fraumeni syndrome, Juvenile polyposis syndrome, and Peutz-Jeghers syndrome among others. In addition, I am currently leading studies focused on colorectal cancer screening and surveillance. My clinical research has been widely published in peer-reviewed journals, editorials, and book chapters and I regularly present my work at national and international conferences.
Additionally, I serve as the President of the Collaborative Group of the Americas Inherited Gastrointestinal Cancer (CGA-IGC). This groups mission is to advance science and clinical care of inherited gastrointestinal cancers through research and education as the leading authority in the Americas.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 11/3/2025, Dr. Stanich has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
