Biography
I am a physical therapist, specializing in orthopedic rehabilitation and sports medicine rehabilitation, at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. My physical therapy practice focuses on treating surgical and nonsurgical musculoskeletal conditions and on helping patients return to the activities that matter most to them.
I chose physical therapy because of my passion for movement, orthopedics and the highly personalized nature of patient care. I believe every patient has unique goals, challenges and recovery needs. Because no two patients are the same, I develop individualized treatment plans designed to help each person progress safely and confidently through recovery.
I specialize in treating a wide range of orthopedic and sports-related injuries, including joint replacements, tendon and ligament repairs, low back and neck pain, foot and ankle injuries, tendinopathy, tendonitis and other joint conditions. I incorporate evidence-based techniques such as manual therapy, blood flow restriction (BFR) training and targeted exercise programs to support recovery, improve function and optimize performance.
At Ohio State, I serve as a Quality Assurance Ambassador and Buckeye Wellness Innovator for my clinical site, supporting high standards of patient care, regulatory compliance and employee well-being. I am also committed to community service through volunteer physical therapy initiatives that expand access to care for uninsured, underinsured and underserved individuals throughout the Columbus community.
My education and clinical training at The Ohio State University helped shape my patient-centered approach to care. Through diverse clinical experiences, I worked with people of varying ages, backgrounds and activity levels, strengthening my ability to create individualized rehabilitation plans that help patients achieve and exceed their goals. Additional crosscultural clinical experiences also enhanced my Spanish language skills and strengthened my commitment to improving access to musculoskeletal care for underserved populations.

Consulting and related relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 11/3/2025, Rachel Schmucker has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
