About Me
I’m an orthopedic surgeon with a subspecialty in sports medicine and shoulder surgery. I take the time to understand each patient’s concerns, goals and expectations while providing a clear explanation of the diagnosis and treatment options, which can range from non-operative solutions to minimally invasive arthroscopic or open surgeries for patients of all ages. I’m passionate about helping my patients alleviate their pain and improving their function to get them back to doing the things that they enjoy.
I developed a focus on patient care, research and education while training at the world-renowned Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. However, as someone who was born and raised in Columbus, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center has always been a special place to me. The team-based approach and willingness to address any problem, no matter how complex, set Ohio State apart for providing the best care possible to patients and made it the ideal place to continue my career.
I’ve served as a team physician and taken care of athletes at all levels of competition, including providing care as an assistant team physician with the New York Giants. I also enjoy taking care of the athletes at Ohio State.
My research interests include enhancing our understanding of shoulder instability and available treatment options as well as patient expectations and clinical outcomes for shoulder replacements and rotator cuff repairs.
When I’m not at work, I enjoy spending time with my family as well as playing tennis and hiking.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.

Very good.
Liked him - no bad experience.
Dr. Ranck spent a good amount of time with me explaining the surgery photos. Also, I had to reschedule a date for my surgery and staff was very accommodating and helpful to find a new date.
All good.
He's great
This was a 4-year checkup on a total shoulder replacement. He showed me the xrays and explained very well how my replacement joint was doing. We discuss getting the other shoulder replaced as it is deteriorating rapidly.
Very good experiences.
