Biography
The hand is a visual and functional marvel that is crucial for maintaining independence in our day-to-day lives. As a plastic surgeon who specializes in hand and upper extremity surgery, I strive to restore form and function to my patients.
During each patient encounter, I treat everyone with dignity, respect and kindness. In order to understand how I can best partner with my patients and individualize the care I provide, I take the time to get to know each one so that I can better grasp their problem in the context of their daily life. The opportunity to see my patients return to doing the work and activities they love is one of the most rewarding parts of my job.
In addition to treating patients, I enjoy teaching and mentoring the next generation of doctors and surgeons here at The Ohio State University. Our surgeons, fellows and residents offer truly exceptional care to our patients, and it is a privilege to work as a part of this team.
In my free time, I enjoy staying active and being outdoors, playing basketball, baseball and golf, as well as traveling, cooking and spending time with my wonderful family. I also have a passion for global surgery and have participated in surgical mission trips to Kenya, Peru, Nicaragua and Mexico.

Absolutely wonderful! Without a doubt the very best medical professional I have ever seen!
Have had 2 visits with a third visit scheduled next week. My hand is healing well thanks to the quick actions and excellent f/u care.
Dr Shmucker was obviously skilled and he communicated with care and understanding. This did not feel like a routine processing of patients. I was impressed!
Very Professional and knew exactly how to help me.
Very friendly, answered all questions
Listened, answered questions and spoke to concernsn

All good
Everyone showed interest and willing to answer questions
I was unable to get into see my provider for 5 weeks. I was told I was not allowed to see another provider in the process in order to get an earlier appointment. The provider spent less than 10 minutes with me. I asked about swelling and discoloration on my lower arm. His comment, I don't see anything. . . "But then again I don't know what your arm usually looks like."Then I was given a choice of treatment, a brace or a steroid shot. My expectations were that he would recommend the treatment not ask me to choose. Overall very disappointed. Will not see this provider again, nor would I recommend this practice.
