About Me

The hand is a visual and functional marvel that is crucial for maintaining independence in our day-to-day lives. As a plastic surgeon who specializes in hand and upper extremity surgery, I strive to restore form and function to my patients.

During each patient encounter, I treat everyone with dignity, respect and kindness. In order to understand how I can best partner with my patients and individualize the care I provide, I take the time to get to know each one so that I can better grasp their problem in the context of their daily life. The opportunity to see my patients return to doing the work and activities they love is one of the most rewarding parts of my job.

In addition to treating patients, I enjoy teaching and mentoring the next generation of doctors and surgeons here at The Ohio State University. Our surgeons, fellows and residents offer truly exceptional care to our patients, and it is a privilege to work as a part of this team.

In my free time, I enjoy staying active and being outdoors, playing basketball, baseball and golf, as well as traveling, cooking and spending time with my wonderful family. I also have a passion for global surgery and have participated in surgical mission trips to Kenya, Peru, Nicaragua and Mexico.

Dr.Schumaker confirmed the diagnosis made by the PA. He presented different treatment options for me. Very easy to understand when he explained the treatment option I chose.

Just drove all the way home and they called me to come back to tell me my finger was broke. Saw him for 2 minutes to give me a bandaid to tape 2 fingers together. Very unnecessary! Waste of time.
