Biography
I am a clinical neuropsychologist and neuroimaging specialist treating mood and anxiety disorders in patients aged 12 through adulthood. In my clinical work I help people navigate big life changes, like moving from being a teenager to becoming an adult, with particular focus on therapy for depression. I also complete neuropsychological assessments.
I value building trusting relationships with my patients. Each person gets a care plan that fits their needs and values. I work to find and build on their strengths to help them become more independent, succeed at work, school or with family, and improve areas where they may struggle. My research looks at how the brain and behavior are related to mood disorders. I study what causes these problems, how they develop, and why some people respond to treatment better than others. I specifically identify tools that might help us improve personalized care. I also look at things like risk for suicide, effects of childhood stress, and how family support can help.
I work on defining the neural circuits leading to the development and persistence of depression and related mood disorders, as well as prediction of treatment response. I am also developing and adapting biological and cognitive tools that can help spot and treat these problems early, to stop them from coming back, and to help people feel better and live fuller lives.
In addition to my clinical and research work, my role involves helping to educate the next generation of providers. I am a professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at The Ohio State University College of Medicine.

Academics and research
I am a clinical neuropsychologist who specializes in assessing and treating mood and anxiety disorders, especially in late adolescents and young adults. My research efforts are focused on key life transitions where support systems and stressors may change, increasing the risk for emergence or exacerbation of brain illnesses. I strive to better understand what causes mood disorders, with the ultimate goal of improving patients’ quality of life. My current projects also include developing and adapting innovative biological and cognitive tools to better identify, support and treat individuals with mood disorders.

Consulting and related relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 11/3/2025, Scott Langenecker has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
