Biography
As a primary care doctor at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, I diagnose and treat a wide variety of acute and chronic health conditions. I believe commitment to wellness practices, which include fostering loving relationships, regular exercise, healthy eating, mindfulness practices and play, is the mainstay of healthy living and is crucial to managing illness and injuries.
Patients can rely on me as a collaborative partner as we work to improve their overall health and wellness. Building trusting relationships with patients and their families, and understanding what matters most to them, is especially important to me. The Ohio State University is a family and we work together to help patients and their families lead their best lives. I am proud to be a part of this wonderfully caring and supportive community.
My research is focused on strategies to help patients manage chronic pain, especially with lifestyle choices. I am part of the leadership team for Ohio State’s interdisciplinary chronic pain management service called Pain Rehabilitation and Education: Values and Activities that Improve Life (PRE: VAIL). My current research project involves studying how the interdisciplinary approach to chronic pain management impacts outcomes.
My formative education and training took place in the U.S. Army, where I served as a platoon leader. After medical school at Georgetown, I completed residency at Madigan Army Medical Center. My experience includes serving as chief medical resident, squadron surgeon in Afghanistan, hospitalist, clinic chief, internal medicine clerkship director, and brigade surgeon. The opportunity to help train medics, clinical staff, medical students and/or residents was a rewarding part of each job.
I love that my current role allows me the chance to continue teaching. As a faculty member in the Division of General Internal Medicine, I work with medical students and residents in both clinic and hospital settings. I also serve as a co-facilitator for Longitudinal Group, Ohio State’s 'how to be a doctor' class for first- and second-year medical students.
When I am not working, I love spending time with my wife and kids, especially outdoors.

Consulting and related relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.

I've been a patient of Dr Corcoran'sSince 2018. My health was a bit of a mess when I first became his patient. I'm in a much better place thanks to Dr Corcoran and the other providers that he has referred me to.
The Dr was very knowledgeable, and empathetic to my situation. He asked lots of questions, and explained things very well
Friendly, personable, easy to talk to.
Dr. Corcoran is the best. He always listens to me, offers solutions, and I never feel rushed. I respect his opinion and feel well-cared for by him. I can't say enough good things about him!
It Corcoran is always professional and friendly. We always discuss our traveling.
Dr Corcoran took the time needed to examine me and discuss my health.
Seemed like a good, caring guy but I was at the wrong location to get help.
Dr Corcoran is a diamond in the rough. He is both learned and a great listener. He then uses both of these skills to provide the best care. I hope he sticks around for a very long time.
Good
Dr Shawn is very caring for my wife & my health!
Dr. Corcoran is thorough with his examination. He listens and is empathetic toward your concerns.
He listened. He was not judgemental. He answered my questions and gave good advice. His response to my blood work was quick.
Always A very good experience
Caring, knows his patient, provides good care insight
I have always had great experiences with Dr Corcoran and his staffers. He was originally my husband's new GP a few years ago. In fact he was so pleasant, thorough, and listened to what he said, I decided that I would like him as my doctor too. I'm so glad that I did. He is so good at what he does I enjoy going to see the doctor now.
Very professional
Pays close attention and asks questions
I spent a very long time talking to a med student and a little time talking to Dr. Corcoran. It was fine since I didn't have serious concerns, but I didn't need that much time with the med student.
Tremendous
All good
