Biography
I am a urogynecologist specializing in pelvic floor disorders, urinary and fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse and other complex female pelvic health conditions. My practice at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center focuses on providing patient-centered, evidence-based care that helps women regain their confidence, independence and quality of life.
As a urogynecologist, I have the privilege of caring for women through all phases of life. Pelvic floor disorders affect many women, yet they are often underrecognized and stigmatized. I am passionate about increasing awareness of these conditions and creating an environment where patients feel comfortable discussing their symptoms and concerns.
I strive to empower my patients to advocate for their health and to make informed decisions about their care. By combining the latest evidence-based treatments with a personalized approach, I work closely with each patient to develop a treatment plan that aligns with their goals and lifestyle. My expertise includes the evaluation and treatment of pelvic floor disorders, urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, birth-related pelvic floor injuries, rectovaginal fistula, urinary fistula and fecal incontinence. I also specialize in minimally invasive surgical procedures designed to improve function and quality of life.
After completing both my residency and fellowship training at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, I knew I wanted to continue my career here. My training provided experience caring for patients with a wide range of conditions and surgical needs, helping shape my approach to delivering comprehensive, compassionate care. I am proud to serve patients throughout the greater Columbus area while also contributing to the education of medical students, resident physicians and fellows.
Research is an important part of my work because it helps advance patient care. During fellowship, I secured grant funding to launch a research study evaluating antibiotic use in select urogynecologic procedures. I was also selected to participate in the American Urogynecologic Society's UrogynCREST clinical research scientist training program. Through my research, I remain committed to identifying best practices and improving outcomes for women with pelvic floor disorders.
When I am not caring for patients, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two children. I also enjoy trying new recipes, running, cycling and exploring local and national parks.

Consulting and related relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 11/3/2025, Shirley Dong has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
