Neurology
Department: Neurology
I am a cognitive neurologist who specializes in neurodegenerative diseases, including Huntington’s disease. I focus on delivering accurate diagnoses and developing evidence-based treatment plans that align with each person’s unique needs and values. My clinical work is closely integrated with research, allowing me to bring emerging tools and approaches into patient care while remaining attentive to individual goals, function, and quality of life.
I chose medicine because it combines scientific problem-solving with the opportunity to build meaningful, long-term relationships with patients and families. I strive to help patients navigate complex neurologic conditions with clarity, continuity, and compassion over time.
I am also involved in the education and mentorship of medical students, residents, and fellows as an Associate Professor of Neurology at The Ohio State University College of Medicine.

I am an Associate Professor of Neurology at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. My research focuses on developing and validating quantitative biomarkers of disease progression in Huntington’s disease and related neurodegenerative disorders.
My current work centers on speech- and language-based digital biomarkers, cognitive paradigms sensitive to early disease change, and multimodal integration with neuroimaging and clinical measures. I conduct longitudinal observational studies and secondary analyses of large HD cohorts, with the goal of establishing scalable, objective markers that improve disease staging, track within-subject progression, and support clinical trials.
I have served as principal investigator on observational and biomarker-focused studies in neurodegenerative disease and have published multiple peer-reviewed articles on Huntington’s disease, cognition, and neuroimaging.

At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 11/3/2025, Simon Laganiere has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
