Steven M Dean, DO, FSVM, RPVI, is the director of the Vascular Medicine Program, Director of Cardiovascular Medicine's Noninvasive Peripheral Vascular Laboratories and Clinical Professor of Medicine at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. His postgraduate training included a residency in internal medicine and fellowship in vascular medicine at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Dr. Dean has published many articles and book chapters on topics related to vascular medicine and is a frequent lecturer at national meetings on vascular related diseases. He has co-edited three vascular medicine textbooks including the Color Atlas and Synopsis of Vascular Medicine (winner of the 2014 "highly commended" cardiology textbook award by the British Medical Association) . Dr. Dean is an examination writer for the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine and is a board member of the American Vein and Lymphatic Medicine and is a board member of the American Vein and Lymphatic Society.

Dr. Dean was absolutely caring and knowledgeable about my diagnosis. Took lots of time with me to explain condition and options.
Asked lots of questions
Dr Dean also had a cardiology fellow working with him and she took my history and did the initial assessment. When he joined us, he confirmed her findings and pointed out some additional things that provided support for the diagnosis I was seeking (lipedema). Since it isn't a widely recognized condition, I appreciated that he is helping newer clinicians and us patients learn about it. Both of them listened to me and validated my concerns, and provided me with options with respect to managing the condition.

Dr Guess (fellow) and Dr Dean were both fabulous! I finally had doctors that knew what I have : lipedema. I was not judged or put down or told I needed to lose 100 pounds. I was respected and I was comfortable the whole visit! I have never been around any doctors that were as overall excellent as them!!! From just being nice and fun to their in depth knowledge on the subject. I would recommend them to everyone! And I hope that Dr Guess decides to specialize in lipedema as well so other women don't have to wait as long to see an expert.

Dr Dean was aware of my existing medical needs and proactive in his approach. He really listened to me and gave me four good suggestions to help my condition. He got me back on track with tackling my lymph edema condition and set up an appointment to see a lymph person to get a new leg wrap and consultation. I wasn't sure I even needed this visit but was happy that I came in as he gave me new perspectives on treatment and further care. The aspect I liked the most was that he listened to me and we discussed treatment options together using his expertise. He examined my legs and explained that due to the nature of the type of edema I have I should be able to reduce my edema with medication, wraps and massage.
Dr. Dean is an exceptional Vascular Doctor. Very pleasant bedside manner, knowledgeable & what he may not know about he will research to get to the medical truth.

Dr Dean is kind and warm- he is gentle and respectful when he touches me- he explains everything. He makes great eye contact and never makes me feel like my questions are unimportant. He is also a leader in the field of research for my condition, yet is so down to earth when talking to me about it.

The doctor listened to me and understood me. I havent had that when it came to lymphedema. I've been to some horrible doctor's that didn't believe anything except that I needed to lose weight.
