Biography
I am a board-certified colorectal surgeon with advanced training in minimally invasive techniques. I chose this specialty because it offers the unique opportunity to provide all aspects of care – medical, surgical and endoscopic interventions. One of the most rewarding aspects of my field is the ability to build long-term relationships with patients through ongoing follow-ups and continuity of care.
Practicing at a leading academic institution like The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center allows me to offer more to my patients. Through a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach, our team delivers personalized care for complex conditions, such as anal and rectal cancers and inflammatory bowel disease. Together, our physicians and researchers develop tailored treatment plans that reflect each patient’s unique needs and goals.
I value the collegial atmosphere at the Ohio State University College of Medicine, and the strong culture of research and education. The vibrant sports culture adds to the energy of the campus. I especially enjoy mentoring students and young professionals, which not only gives me an opportunity to share my expertise but also allows me to learn from others.
Outside of work, I spend time with my family and enjoy being outdoors.

Consulting and related relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.

Dr. Husain and and staff was very helpful and knowledgeable when I had questions and took care of me very well.
Dr. Hussein is wonderful. He's a great listener and always very thoughtful at every visit.

I understand surgeons are kind of always busy. Aside from feeling my time with him a bit rushed, the only other downside is that the images of my scope study are not a part of my file and I can't access them for future comparison. Other than that I felt perfectly well taken care off and in expert hands.

Wouldn't go anywhere else for my healthcare needs!!
Felt like I was judged and sometime my opinions dismissed.
I was shocked by this experience and honestly don't know how to respond to it still. I had a very invasive procedure done spontaneously, then was told I am a hopeless case who will never have normal bowel function again. On top of that, I am going to lose all my sex organs and parts of my vagina. No consideration was given to my mental health during this exam. I was told my quality of life would be OVER after this surgery and that I should consider myself disabled and terminal. I was very distraught and given no help at all, just sent on my way. This is not what I expected from the James. I could have gone home and killed myself! So irresponsible and unfair. Patients are human beings! I thought a multidisciplinary team was working on my case! But then I am told no need for a gynecologist even though you are removing my sex organs?! I don't understand how this is acceptable practice at a world class hospital. And when I raised the alarm the response I got was, let's put her on antidepressants.
Husain, residents, and nurses are caring professionals who take the time to listen and create a plan that is patient centered.
