About Me
As a gastroenterologist, I’m passionate about improving the lives of my patients. I’m a professor of Clinical Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, and excited to lead the Neurogastroenterology and Motility section. I treat a broad range of conditions, including disorders of gut-brain interaction (DGBI) as well as motility disorders that affect the function of the GI system.
However, the primary focus of my clinical and scientific work is in disorders of vomiting, specifically a condition called cyclic vomiting syndrome (CVS). My research is focused in understanding the cause for CVS and developing better therapies to treat this disorder. I was the lead author on the first-ever guidelines on the management of CVS, which is an important milestone that should help improve the lives of these patients. I’m also involved in multiple key clinical trials and studies in CVS with many exciting advances in the pipeline. I serve as one of the chief medical advisors to the Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome Association (CVSA), a nonprofit organization that serves to help patients with this condition. I also collaborate with other nonprofit organizations such as the International Foundation of Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders (IFFGD) and help with education, dissemination of information and research.
I enjoy working in academic medicine and helping to train the next generation of physicians. I mentor medical students, residents and junior faculty members, and help them with their professional and personal development.
When I’m not working, I love spending time with family and friends. I enjoy traveling and gardening. I also serve as a meditation instructor.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 09/30/2024, Dr. Venkatesan has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
Good
Compassionate, caring. Extremely knowledgeable about my health history and disease
My care provider is top notch and can simply be described as stellar. She is wise beyond words, she cares more than I thought ever possible and she has the most charismatic and infectiously positive charm. I feel so lucky to be a patient of hers.
She is always very kind and very knowledgeable and I feel that she genuinely wants to help me feel better, My symptoms from cyclic vomiting have definitely improved gradually under her care my life was turned upside down for 2 yrs before I found Dr Venkatesan.
Good
My provider made me feel that she was listening to what I had to say and addressed my issues.
Excellent explanations
Dr.V is the BEST! I hope she will be able to do more to help us with rare diseases and this hospital and all the politics involved will step aside and allow her to do what she can to help us..who are suffering from a very debilitating illness.
Didn't listen to me. Didn't address any questions.
Very knowledgeable about cyclic vomiting syndrome
Explained everything to me this visit. I'm passed visits this didn't happen. I was considering changing providers, but will continue for now. Maybe I just didn't give her the chance to get to know me. I'm a fairly new patient.
I understood everything she said! Really appreciated her and her staff.
Care provider offered no help. She undiagnosed me based on me answering questions after waiting 8 months for an appointment. I've spent a lot of money finding help myself because gastroparesis is not a hospital money maker. I felt dismissed. Told I had constipation. And that I was managing it fine. No info or test were offered for her @constipation" diagnosis.
Good
Dr. V. is one of the best. She speaks in terms we can understand and shows honest concern for me as her patient. One of the best drs. I have ever seen.
I loved her...she was so understanding and very aware of my situation and came up with a plan and alternative options
Love, Love Venkatesan; she is the only specialist I know who can treat my disease. My gastro dr. told me my disease warrants seeing her. She cares so much and really tries to help me and to improve what I can with my episodes. Her research is very valuable to my care ad my primary care dr. She always takes time and shows concern for my OVERALL wellbeing not just treating my syndrome.
She was friendly.
Gave me undivided attention, listened well, did not feel hurried.
Dr. V listened to my issue. She is a very caring doctor.
Honestly, I can not say enough good things about Dr. V., she is a class act. So happy I found her at OSU, she cares very much about me and my CVS condition. Takes time to answer all of my questions and concerns. wish I would have found her 5 years ago. Just today a nurse from her office called me to inform me that Dr. V. had been working with my insurance provider to get me a new medication. I'm so grateful to her and her staff for helping me deal with insurance obstacles. Additionally, her office staff and Dr. V. are always quick to reply to MyChart questions.
Very good
