About Me

As a former pediatrician at Wright-Patterson Medical Center, I had the opportunity to receive training in the diagnoses and treatment of allergic disorders. It was my experience with allergists at the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine and the U.S. Air Force allergy training program that made me feel passionate about this subspecialty.

I give the same care and attention to my patients as I did with children and their families when I was a pediatrician. I enjoy helping patients understand what we know (and don’t know) about their condition, the limitations of testing, and the use of medications and non-medication treatments. I listen to their concerns, gather relevant history, order any necessary tests and partner with the patient to determine a personalized treatment plan.

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center stands out because of the institution’s long-standing history of education, research and patient care as well as its community involvement and way of practically applying translational research to patient care. While working here, I would love to get involved in research relating to allergic rhinitis, venom allergy and/or allergy education. I’m also fascinated by immunomodulation, the possibility to change the immune system to be less reactive to allergens such as environmental (dog, cat, dust mite), pollens and venom.

From 2015 to 2020, I was the only allergist working for Licking Memorial Health Systems, a community hospital in Newark, Ohio, with a primary role as a hospitalist pediatrician. I supported the idea of creating an allergy clinic there, training allergy nurses and treating a variety of allergic and immunologic conditions.

Outside of the workplace, I’m also involved on a national level with Christian Medical and Dental Associations (CMDA), primarily with Women Physicians in Christ (WPC), as well as with several national medical associations. In my free time, I enjoy reading, traveling on medical missions, camping, being a 4-H advisor, and getting involved with my children’s extracurricular activities.

My provider is the best. She listens to all my questions and concerns and answers and explains all of them. I feel she is on top of my health issues.

She was absolutely amazing and made me feel like I mattered and the heath concerns I had were just that, concerns. She came up with a plan with me and for me and listened to all my concerns.

Dr. Owens is a life saver. I'm 41 and had been battling extreme spring seasonal allergies that induced asthma since I was a child. No doctor was able to give me any sort of relief with any type of treatment the last 40 years, and I had tried it all. Each spring, I was taking what I would consider to be an unsafe amount of allergy medicine + decongestant along with albuterol just to survive the 3-4 months. After my first 12 months of treatment with Dr. Owens, I took allergy meds + decongestant less than a dozen times during the spring and albuterol only a handful of times. After 24 months of treatment, I took ONE regular allergy pill and NO albuterol during the entire spring season. If that doesn't show how Dr. Owens is changing lives I don't know what will. I felt like I was losing 3-4 months of my life every year, and she gave that back to me.

Dr. Owens explained very explicitly what she was testing for and why.
