Biography
I am an orthopedic surgeon specializing in treating patients for foot and ankle issues. I perform a variety of procedures, including ankle replacement surgery, foot deformity correction, minimally invasive bunion surgery and Achilles tendon repair and reconstruction. I also address ankle instability and offer ankle cartilage repair and restorative procedures.
My experience includes many years spent caring for members of our armed forces. I served three deployments supporting military campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan. I also maintained one of the busiest foot and ankle practices within the military, with a focus on total ankle replacement and minimally invasive techniques, at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. I also served 10 years as the orthopedic foot and ankle consultant to the White House Medical Unit. I have also co-authored 20 articles in peer-reviewed journals and seven book chapters.
I received my medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine, and I’m thrilled to return to the college as an associate professor of Orthopaedics and help educate the next generation of surgeons and leaders. I am passionate about resident education and training and have taught medical students and orthopaedic residents for the past 15 years.

Consulting and related relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.

Routine, nothing stands out. Just a normal visit.
Dr. Eckel improved my quality of life immeasurably. At every appointment he is thorough and listens and considers the whole patient.
Everything was great excellent
He was well informed about my medical issue. He done an excellent job on my surgery and I am very satisfied with him.
No Bad
Dr eckel spoke a little too fast for me.
I was not impressed by the doctor. When he came in, he went straight to business. He showed no compassion or concerns towards me. He never asked how my injury happened and what I've been doing at home. When he was talking, I was very confused of what he was saying because he was talking in technical words. Later, I found out he was using AI to record my appointment. He never told me he was using an AI. Which explains a whole lot about my experience because he was more concerned of charting while he was examining me instead of examining and talking to me then charting after my appointment. I don't mind doctors is using AI But they need to let the patient know that's what he's doing. At the end of the appointment, I didn't feel comfortable enough to ask him any further questions about my injury because he did not make the energy welcoming. Thankfully, Jeff came in and answered any more questions that I had and showed me how to use everything. I would never recommend anybody seen this doctor.
Dr. Eckel talks too quickly. I need him to slow down and actually have a conversation with me. A lot of problems could have been avoided if he'd listened to me when I expressed my concerns.
