About Me
A person’s ability to communicate defines who they are — and hearing is one of the most fundamental aspects of communication. That’s what drives my passion as an otolaryngology head and neck surgeon with a special focus on patients with hearing loss.
I specialize in treatment of disorders of the outer, middle and inner ear, as well as tumors of the temporal bone and skull base. I strive to deliver individualized, state-of-the-art and compassionate care to each patient. My goal is to get to know each patient so that together we can come up with the highest quality treatment plan using the most up-to-date technology.
I treat a range of conditions, including all conditions related to hearing and balance. Among these are infections of the ear (acute and chronic otitis media); cholesteatoma (abnormal skin growths in the ear); otosclerosis (fixation of the hearing bone resulting in hearing loss); vestibular schwannoma (a benign tumor growth on the hearing and balance nerve); Meniere’s disease; and superior semicircular canal dehiscence.
In addition, I have a PhD in medical engineering and medical physics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a strong research interest in skull base tumor biology, neurofibromatosis type 2, nanotechnology for biomarker development and drug delivery, and clinical outcomes for patients after ear and skull base surgery. I’ve won multiple national awards and grants related to my research.
In my free time, I like to exercise, run, take photographs and travel.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 09/29/2023, Dr. Ren has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
Very professional very good communication skills
Didn't listen to what I had to say. Just keep repeating himself in medical terms I didn't understand.
Dr. Ren was easy to understand and explained things clearly.
Doctor Ren and his staff were amazing. They were very knowledgeable and addressed my concerns and decreased my fears. I have total confidence in this team!
First time I ever saw this person and was well pleased with him.
No problem.
Good
Dr. Yin Ren was "super." Excellent post op care by nurses.
Dr. Ren was extremely knowledgeable and efficient. He explained my condition in terms I could understand, and clearly stated my options for future care. He was kind and courteous.
They were very reassuring and confident. They made me feel very comfortable
Very satisfied and knowledgeable. Took his time and explained things well.
This was my 1st time seeing Dr. Ren. My former doctor is no longer with OSU. During my visit we mainly discussed my right ear problems. Dr. Ren didn't even look in my left ear. That ear is dead, but I have a history of cholesteatoma. In the past the doctors have needed to clean out my left ear. I didn't realize he didn't examine my left ear until I was on my way home.
Thought care was better than expected, professional, friendly and obviously knowledgeable!
He was wonderful. I trust him with my problem completely.
Expert in his field. In my 75 years, I only consider that rating with 3 physicians out of at least 25 I have had experience with.
All good
Listens well!
Dr. Ren listened to my concern, was a good experience. He seem not to be familiar with my medical history, was a bad experience.
Dr. Ren seemed extremely caring yet very straight forward - he made my options very simple to evaluate.
Good experience.
Very helpful and thoughtful
My oncologist told me to get a regular ent that would see me once a year of when I needed than. I told this to my provider and he seemed to ignore my concern with a follow up or care.
Really fast to understand & smart.
He's very thorough. Easy to talk to.
Bad experience was when Dr. Ren used that ear suction machine, I thought he went a little bit too deep into my ear canal. My ear is still hurting me a week later after my appointment.
He knows his stuff. I feel confident his shots are helping get some hearing back in Rt. ear. Yeah!
Very courteous and professional.
Very good!
None
Short but good experiences.
He listened well
Dr. Ren helped me through the disease progression by giving me the meds and shots to keep me functional. When I called his office after each vertigo episode, he immediately responded with a remedy and formed a medical plan to help me navigate through the process. It is very comforting to have a plan when I have no control over my symptoms.
Everything was fine.
My first visit to Dr. Ren. I was very pleased with Dr. Ren.

He seems to be very complete in finding out problem & correcting it.
I asked him to put in tubes today, as I needed them and had waited 5 weeks for the appointment. 5 weeks was too long to wait, but he did the tubes for me right then. That helped alleviate the loss of hearing I had been dealing with for months.
The doctor was extremely good in explaining things and listening to my concerns.
