Cancer care is a critical health issue in which Ohio ranks #6 in the nation for cancer-related deaths.

Through Healthy State Alliance, we are working together to expand the latest in oncology care to more patients throughout Ohio including:

  • Providing expedited access to the latest research and oncology clinical trials
  • Deploying virtual health platforms for specialty consultations for patients
  • Collaborating on continuing medical education programs for our oncology clinicians
  • Deploying access to enhanced coordination of patient care with shared tumor boards and multidisciplinary team-based care

By bringing together subspecialized cancer research and care expertise and community health care in Ohio, The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James) and Mercy Health are uniquely positioned to make a difference in our communities.

To strengthen and increase cancer services in the Lima community, Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center joined as an affiliate hospital of the OSUCCC – James' The James Cancer Network.

The OSUCCC – James is one of only 51 cancer programs in the United States designated as a National Cancer Institute (NCI) comprehensive cancer center. With more than 200 oncologists, each of whom specializes in just one type of cancer, the OSUCCC – James offers expert subspecialization, which leads to more productive integration with cancer research and, ultimately, to better outcomes.

Through The James Cancer Network, Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Cancer Center physicians have access to the subspecialization at the OSUCCC – James and clinical trials, while allowing patients to stay close to home where they will be near their loved ones and support system.
