DEBARD HONORED BY AMERICAN COLLEGE OF EMERGENCY PHYSICIANS

Dr. Mark L. DeBard, MD, FACEP, professor of emergency medicine, has been awarded the 2013 John G. Wiegenstein Leadership Award. This award is the American College of Emergency Physicians’ (ACEP) highest honor, and is presented to a current or past national ACEP leader - member of the Board of Directors or officer of the Council - for outstanding contributions to the College. Dr. DeBard served two terms on ACEP’s Board of Directors from 1992-1998 and then went on to serve for six more years as Council Vice-Speaker and then Speaker from 1999-2005. He is also a Past President of the Ohio Chapter of ACEP. He will be given this award on October 16 at ACEP’s annual Scientific Assembly in Seattle. 

DEPARTMENT OF NEUROSURGERY FACULTY ELECTED TO LEADERSHIP

Multiple faculty members from the Department of Neurosurgery were elected to leadership positions in the Ohio State Neurological Society (OHSNS). Eric Sauvageau, MD, surgical director, neurovascular center, was elected treasurer and Ehud Mendel, MD, director, spinal neurosurgery, was elected delegate to the Council of State Neurological Societies (CSNS). John McGregor, MD, director, neurosurgery Gama Knife program, will continue to represent the OHSNS as a delegate to the CSNS. These leadership positions were given at the Ohio State Neurological Society meeting on April 13.

OHIO STATE PHYSICIAN APPOINTED TO STATE BOARD

Dr. Billy O. Barclay, medical director, addiction medicine services, has been appointed to The Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board by Governor John R. Kasich. His term began May 22, 2013, and will end December 23, 2014. The Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board is a 13-member board, of which 12 members are appointed by the governor. One doctor authorized to practice medicine and surgery or osteopathic medicine and surgery and has experience practicing in a field related to chemical dependency counseling is always a member of the board.
