Bumgardner appointed president of American Society of Transplant Surgeons
Ginny Bumgardner, MD, PhD, associate dean for Research Education and professor of Surgery at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, was appointed president of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS) at this year’s American Transplant Congress. Bumgardner is the 51st ASTS president and will lead the association from 2024-2025. She is also a member of the American College of Surgeons National Surgeon Scientist Program Committee. 
 
Maddocks elected to scientific advisory board of Lymphoma Research Foundation
Kami Maddocks, MD, professor in the Division of Hematology and medical director of infusion services at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center—Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute, has been elected as a scientific advisory board member of the Lymphoma Research Foundation. Comprised of 45 world-renowned lymphoma experts, the board guides planning of the foundation’s research portfolio, selecting and monitoring grant recipients and designing the foundation’s international and scientific programs. 
 
Ohio State doctor is 2024 Family Medicine Educator of the Year
The Ohio Academy of Family Physicians (OAFP) has named Allison Macerollo, MD, its 2024 Family Medicine Educator of the Year. The OAFP annually presents the award to a family medicine educator who is an inspiring leader that encourages medical students to purse the ideals of family medicine. Macerollo is a family medicine physician, clinical associate professor and vice chair for medical education in The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Department of Family and Community Medicine.
 
Kalady appointed leadership position of Research Foundation of American Society of Colon, Rectal Surgeons
Matthew Kalady, MD, professor of surgery and director of the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery in The Ohio State University College of Medicine, has been appointed vice president of the board of trustees for the Research Foundation of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. He will serve a two-year term. 
 
Ohio State emergency medicine doctor receives SAEM Early Investigator Award
The Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM) has awarded Katherine H. Buck, MD, MPH, the Early Investigator Award. The award recognizes SAEM members for their research commitment and achievement during the early stage of their academic career. Buck, who is an assistant professor of emergency medicine at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, has more than 40 peer reviews publications and multiple National Institutes of Health-funded grants.
 
Ohio State selected for Joint Disaster Medicine and Public Health Ecosystem
The Ohio State University is part of a new Joint Disaster Medicine and Public Health Ecosystem. The National Center for Disaster Medicine and Public Health, a component of the Uniformed Services University, established the ecosystem to improve medical and public health disaster readiness. The ecosystem is a collaboration of medical and public health partners across the country. It will support the quick mobilization of resources in response to disasters.
