COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center’s Stroke Program will offer free stroke risk assessments every Thursday in May from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Ross Heart Hospital lobby, 452 West 10th Avenue.

At each assessment, patients will be assessed on the eight factors that increase the risk of a stroke. These risk factors include high blood pressure, atrial fibrillation, smoking, cholesterol, diabetes, exercise, diet and family history. No registration is necessary.
Ohio State has the only stroke rehabilitation program in Ohio certified for traumatic brain injury and stroke. Ohio State has the most comprehensive group of experts in central Ohio specialty trained in stroke care and rehabilitation, including neurologists, neuroradiologists, neurointerventionalists, neurosurgeons, neurointensivists, emergency medicine physicians, vascular surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses and therapists.
Ohio State’s Wexner Medical Center has been awarded the advanced certification for designation as a Comprehensive Stroke Center. Ohio State has been recognized by The Joint Commission and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association as meeting the Joint Commission’s standards for Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification. Only 26 centers in the United States, from the list of 900 primary stroke centers, have received this award. Comprehensive Stroke Centers offer a high level of care for patients with the most severe and challenging types of strokes and cerebrovascular disease.
