COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center has been recognized as one of the nation’s Most Wired hospitals, according to the 2012 Health Care’s Most Wired Survey, published in the July issue of Hospitals & Health Networks magazine.
More than 660 U.S. hospitals and health care organizations participated in the 14th annual survey and 215 received the designation based on evaluations in four areas: infrastructure, business and administrative management, clinical quality and safety, and clinical integration.
“This national award means a lot to us because it represents that we are doing our best to leverage technology to improve the care for our patients,” said Phyllis Teater, chief information officer at Ohio State’s Wexner Medical Center.
Among the key findings in this year’s survey:
- More than 25 percent, including Ohio State’s Wexner Medical Center, reported offering care management messages and communication with physicians through social media and online programs such as OSUMyChart.
- 74 percent of Most Wired hospitals use automated patient flow systems.
- 90 percent use performance improvement scorecards to help reduce inefficiencies.
- 93 percent employ intrusion detection systems to protect patient privacy and data.
- All Most Wired hospitals check drug interactions and drug allergies when medications are ordered as a major step in reducing medication errors.
