COLUMBUS, Ohio – Buckeye spirit is shining brightly on The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center new University Hospital, opening in early 2026.
Volunteers lit 88 patient rooms in sequence to write the traditional Script Ohio on the west side of the building facing State Route 315. The design spans across ten of the 24 floors.
The idea came from Tanner Gorman, a construction project manager at The Ohio State University who has been on the hospital project for three years. His first attempt at window activation was a building-wide OH-IO that greeted early morning staff participating in a large operations dress rehearsal in October.
“Both designs were pretty easy to plan. I filled out a spreadsheet with all of the room numbers and then it just came together,” Gorman said.
Script Ohio will remain lit on the building through the weekend in recognition of Beat Xichigan Week.
When the new University Hospital opens in early 2026, it will have 820 spacious and modern private rooms, including 234 intensive care beds. With state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment services, the new hospital is designed to deliver the best collaborative and innovative patient care.
