Stephen Atkins earned his B.S. in Microbiology from Eastern Michigan University. He had conducted research at the University of Michigan for 18 years before moving to OSU. Stephen has been involved in a variety of research fields ranging from studies of human diseases in macular degeneration, ciliopathies, and Graves’ disease. He has also been involved in novel technical research in developing transfection arrays, as well as studies in nitrogen metabolism and creating artificial gene pathways in E. coli. Stephen Atkins joined Dr. Benjamin Segal’s lab in April of 2018 and is working on projects dedicated to understanding the role of the immune system in the regeneration of optic nerves and retinas in mouse models.
