About Me
I specialize in orthopaedics, with a subspecialty in shoulder surgery.
My approach to patient care is providing individualized care to each patient and problem. I believe strongly in a conservative approach and involving patients in their care.
I use non-operative measures whenever possible. However, there are times when surgery is the best solution. In those cases, I use only the latest and most current techniques in shoulder surgery.
I am passionate about what I do as an orthopedic shoulder surgeon. That’s because I get a lot of pleasure from treating not only the straightforward problems, but also the complex and more difficult shoulder problems. I love helping patients reclaim their quality of life and getting them back to the activities they enjoy.

Dr. Bishop is the second doctor I have consulted for treatment of the same injury/ condition. I was very favorably impressed by 2 things. 1) The examination, including conversation about the history and previous treatment of the injury/ condition, was much more throrough than had been the case with my original, (non-OSU), doctor. I believe Dr. Bishop's treatment plan is much more specific to my individual condtion. 2) Dr. Bishop will be performing a minimally invasive procedure which seems much more plausible considering the activities that I can do and those that I cannot. I did not have any negative experience.
Excellent
Very good experience
I definitely would go to her again or refer anyone to her
Dr. Bishop is excellent and if I needed additional assistance from her I would not hesitate.
Perfect
Very nice, explains everything well, and an excellent surgeon! I have recommended Julie Bishop to several people who have said they need to have shoulder surgery.
First time seeing her so we didn't speak at great lengths. She too ask about my pain level and ended that conversation. This must be an OSU policy.
Very good
I'm so impressed. I was strongly referred to Dr. Bishop by three nurses after I had an unsuccessful (botched?) bicep reattachment/rotator cuff surgery with another practice in 2022 and was told I'd need a shoulder replacement. I met with her early in 2023 to discuss the replacement, but all went on hold when I had to have other unexpected surgeries first. So we got reacquainted, and scheduled the replacement for early next year (at my request). I really liked Dr. Bishop the first time, and liked her even more this time. I (somewhat jokingly) told myself, "I'm 67 years old, but she makes me feel every bit as important as the OSU athletic stars she treats!"
They were all good
First consult with an orthopedic surgeon that answered all my concerns in which I understood and was impressed with her plan of care
This was my first meeting with this provider and I was positively impressed with her level of caring and knowledge.
Fantastic! Has treated 2 other family members.
She was awesome.
She was very knowledgeable and friendly.
Very informing, very caring and great knowledge.
I was very impressed with Dr. Bishop. She puts you at ease. Dr. Bishop gave me options and took the time to explain everything.
Excellent in every way! I feel lucky to have had Dr. Bishop as my surgeon. Even my physical therapist remarked how well her patients do post surgery.

All excellent
Dr Bishop was superb. She was confident of a good outcome when she recommended surgery, and made by decision easy. The surgery outcome exceeded my expectations. I cannot say enough good things about Dr Bishop and the entire experience at the sports med center.
Very patient, good listener, provided options and allowed me time to ask questions and make decisions.
Good
Appreciated the detailed explanations from both Dr Bishop and 5he fellow working with her
Very nice and personable. Presented facts and treatment plan I needed for my review.
Put me at ease
My calm, confident surgeon, Dr. Bishop, met with my partner after my operation. That's expected. But at the end of her day, still in her scrubs, she treked up to my hospital room to speak with me, to check on me. She and her staff CONTINUE to check on me as I continue my recovery. I am so grateful for the care I have received these past six years at the OSU family of hospitals.
Dr. Bishop was interested in me as a person, not just a shoulder. She explained everything in detail, visually showing me my MRI. I feel that I am in the best hands for rotator cuff surgery
This was my first initial visit with Dr.Bishop. She was very kind, and caring! She explained exactly why I had the pain in my shoulder that I have. She was very concerned and attentive to my needs. I look forward to seeing her for my future needs.

I was very impressed by her bedside manner, the amount of time she spent with me, and the instructions and education she gave me. I have had bad experiences with surgeons several times in my life and I was nervous about seeing another one, but she made me feel comfortable and was absolutely great.
Not impressed
Kind and competent.
5 stars
Dr. Bishop is the best. She is a very good surgeon and is friendly. She knows my history and was very pleased with my x rays and my range of motion. She will continue to follow up in two years. I appreciate her monitoring me for any future problems.
My care provider was good.
Dr Bishop and the Resident listened to my concerns and answered my questions regarding the procedure I need
Excellent care and explanations

She was very impressive. Very kind and knowledgeable
Dr. Bishop has such a calming nature and genuinely cares about her patient's recovery. I know she must hear the same questions over and over each day, yet she makes me feel like I am a priority and my situation is special. The support of Dr. Bishop and her staff encouraged me to work harder on my recovery and achieve maximum use of my new shoulder.
Amazing
Dr Bishop was recommended by my VA doctor and she provided care beyond my expectations. She is thorough, kind and provided me with key information I need regarding a serious health condition I have. I'm grateful for her care.
Dr. Bishop is a miracle worker and gave me my movement back!
Absolutely the best! I have told my 2 friends who also need shoulder surgery that they should use Dr. Bishop and Ohio Wexner!
The resident and practitioner worked well together and both provided specific hands on testing. Gave easy to understand answers. Set up surgery right away. Very professional.
Very informative & helpful
Everyone was helpful and professional.
The best
If there was a 10+ she would deserve it.
Very knowledgeable, very helpful, provided all the information needed to make good health decisions.
Great, Dr Bishop listened to me, and provided easy to understand answers. Made me feel more at ease with the situation.
Dr. Bishop and her resident were clear, thoughtful, and thorough in going over my options and outlining the details of my proposed surgery, as well as my after care process.
Good
In 2015, this provider performed a very successful surgery on me. That is why I have returned to this provider with a similar problem.
I love Doctor Bishop. She is a great surgeon. Has excellent bedside manners and always shows care and concern
Always outstanding

Very nice and friendly. Very knowledgeable
Staff was the best and very considerate of all needs
Very good
Very good also and extremely helpful and very efficient as well
Dr. Bishop comes off the wrong way every visit I've had. She isn't personable and has no bedside manners. Straight to the point no empathy. She may be good at what she does while performing surgery, but not a caring person which shows thru her personality and demeanor.
Great listener, terrific surgeon, poised and articulate
I appreciate the way Dr. Bishop explains next steps and shares the X-rays. I have great confidence in her judgement and experience.
The Best
Came in and examined the problem and talked to me about different options to help me make the correct decision for me
Dr Julie bishop remembered my prostate cancer biopsy and had her assistant contact me to reschedule my shoulder surgery. She is impressive!!
Dr Bishop is the Best
She treated me with respect; questioning, observing and summonsing then explaining the summary in understanding way.
Always a good experience
Dr. Bishop is an excellent Orthopedist!
Good Good
I came to Dr. Bishop looking for a second opinion regarding my lack of recovery after having a full shoulder replacement. I would and have recommended Dr Bishop to a couple of friends.
I think Dr. Bishop is a exceptional surgeon. I am very pleased with both surgeries she performed on my shoulder.
I trust Dr. Bishop and her staff with any muskulo-skeletal issue I have. She encourages me to stay active and gives me advice for managing joint pain.
Dr. Bishop is really excellent at being an active listener and seeking to understand & empathize where the patient is coming from. Over the years with multiple surgeries, I feel like this is such an important (& sometimes lacking) quality in a surgeon.
Dr Bishop and her resident were excellent.
Dr Bishop has my complete respect....I have referred numerous people to her because of her overallExpertise and the outstanding courtesy she allow,s me as a patient.
She was friendly and informative.
All was great. She is the best.
Thorough, personable, caring. Took time to answer all questions.
After my visit, Dr. Bishop wished my husband well because she performed surgery on his shoulder, too.
Extremely competent and able to answer the questions I had.
She was very good and on time.
There has never been a bad experience with Dr. Bishop. She is excellent, a wonderful bedside manner, caring, and friendly. She is knowledgeable, the very best. She explains throughly. She is the best surgeon and a wonderful person.
Dr. Bishop did a great job on my rotator cuff, no pain and back playing golf
Attentive, addressed my concerns
Absolutely amazing. She's gone above and beyond to make sure she could find a procedure to do on my shoulder, answer all the questions she could, and remain positive.
Some responses to my questions were not always consistent or thorough. I was occasionally unclear as to my expected outcome or the limitations on what I could or could not do with my affected shoulder. Before surgery I was told that "some people can" do certain motions after their surgery. Then, after my surgery, I was told it wasn't likely that I would ever be able to do the motion (just because that's the way it is). As with other visits, I discussed the feed back with my physical therapy who could always explain things much more clearly and consistently.
Dr. Bishop was very professional, courteous and sincerely interested in hearing about my shoulder. She explained the MRI findings and indicated what was applicable to my shoulder pain. Recommended a plan and suggested other treatment options other than surgery.
Good job.
This was a consult for future surgery and dr. Bishop was very understanding and explained everything
I feel like my examination was thorough. Dr. Bishop explained her thoughts about my injury clearly and I appreciated her explanations and assessment. She was kind and reassuring.
Team-oriented. Professional concerned.

Knowledgeable, direct and to the point which I prefer. She controlled the room

All good.
Dr. Bishop is amazing she is quick but she is thorough and efficient and she also has a great personality
I was very pleased with Dr. Bishop. She explained in detail her thoughts and concerns regarding my right shoulder.
Dr Julie Bishop allowed me plenty of time and was extremely thorough
Terrific. The appt was terrific. The Dr is caring, patient, and a miracle for me.
Dr. Bishop is easy to talk too! Always listening carefully to my problem. Fully exams my shoulder. She is the most amazing doctor I've ever been too. Ohio is lucky to have her as a surgeon.
Excellent- Dr. Asked questions regarding pain levels, concern about my ICD and ultimately what I considered comfortable regarding a condition that likely did not have a quick fix. Next steps considered all my responses and I am comfortable moving forward.
It was a pleasure working w/Dr. Bishop and her team. She was very thorough with my appointments and advising me with treatment suggestions, etc.
Excellent
My provider was clear about the progress I am making in my recovery and clearly answered all my questions.
