Transportation is the No. 1 contributor of the nation’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. As major employers with complex supply chain logistics, hospitals are well positioned to reduce transportation GHGs by influencing employee commutes, transitioning to low- or zero-emission fleet vehicles and optimizing supply chain distribution practices.

  • Since March 2020, telehealth visits have grown to over 1.3 million, helping patients avoid more than 106 million miles of travel and saving over 4.8 million gallons of gasoline. This shift has also reduced appointment-related waste by 45 tons and cut nearly 37,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions, showing how telehealth benefits both patients and the environment.
  • The medical center remains committed to supporting sustainable transportation by maintaining and expanding access to electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Currently, four EV charging stations are available across key locations, including The James Outpatient Care, Old Cannon Garage, Wexner Medical Center Garage, and 9th Avenue East Garage. These charging stations provide convenient options for staff, patients, and visitors, reflecting the medical center's dedication to promoting environmentally friendly commuting solutions.
