Biography
My expertise is in otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat). I have a particular interest in voice, swallowing, sinonasal and thyroid/parathyroid disorders. In my specialty, there are many medical and surgical treatment options that can make a significant impact in a patient's quality of life. Our multidisciplinary team provides patients with a tailored and targeted treatment plan for their specific disease.
I help my patients make informed decisions about how to approach their care. I provide all available treatment options and discuss important aspects of each. A well-informed patient can make decisions that contribute to a better outcome.
At Ohio State, we have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology while collaborating with other specialists. I work closely with other specialty areas such as pulmonary, allergy, speech pathology, gastroenterology and neurology to provide comprehensive care to my patients. We have the resources we need to really help our patients.
In my free time, I enjoy attending Ohio State football games, traveling and relaxing with family. This includes taking an occasional time out to coach my daughters' volleyball and basketball teams.

At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.

Dr. DeSilva took time to listen to my concerns and my recent healthcare experience which resulted in this visit. He adjusted my medications per my request and gave me a clear immediate plan. I would have liked some additional time to discuss any possible prevention of this reoccurring since this condition has occurred twice in 3 months.
I am well aware that my health conditions are that of pandora's box, at least to me. This is I believe the 8th specialists I have working with me currently. This was a consult for Dr. DeSilva. I thought he was very knowledgeable and helpful but just something small: when I was describing a location of my problem, he wasn't looking at me, he was charting. So I don't know if he got the full picture of what was going on, but maybe he did. Other than that, I thought he was well informed of what else was going on and how it could be relates to my current problems.

Dr deSilva checks in my to see how things are going. We discuss any questions before he gives the treatment for my vocal cords. I totally trust him to take care of me.
I was there for a consultation after encountering hearing problems from a procedure not performed at OSU. The provider was not able to provide information on possible causes/ potential testing / or others to consult for root cause problem-solving. I got the impression that he was not interested in providing follow-up care and diagnostic problem solving. I have since consulted another leading university ENT department who was able to immediately identify the root cause and provide a plan of action.

Dr deSilva was very understanding of my anxiety re: test being completed due to a prior negative experience / allergic reaction during the same test with a different provider in the past.
Dr deSilva is very nice and a good listener.I feel very comfortable having him give me a shot in each vocal cord every three months for muscle spasms. I was afraid of receiving shots for at least 6 years. My son-in-law is a surgeon and talked me into going to Dr DrSilva. I'm so thankful he did. I'm not afraid with Dr DeDilva in charge of the procedure.

Dr. DiSilva is always pleasant and asks for my input. The procedure this time, of injecting botox into my vocal cords has gone very smoothly. I haven't experienced any adjustment at all. I'm very pleased because sometimes I've had a temporary swallowing issue, which is not out of the ordinary, but none this time.

The doctor and his Fellow listened to my concerns and explained everything they would do to check my vocal cords, how it would be done, and what they would look for. After doing the test and video taping the vocal cords they took the time to show me various things they say and what they were looking for, and how those things did or did not affect my breathing, voice, raspy throat, etc.

Dr. DeSilva was very kind and compassionate. He sat down and really listened to my concerns. He read my chart before coming in and knew my history, procedures and past issues. He understood and respected my use of a ventilator and gave me time to take extra breaths before removing the ventilator tube to do a scope. He even assisted my caregiver with repositioning my head and head pillows after the scope.

I was very impressed that Dr. DeSilva understood and could explain to me the symptoms that I'm having that was flummoxing everyone else. He showed us the video of what was happening and what the surgery would do to change that. That was also very helpful.
Dr DaSilva then entered the exam room after the previous Dr gathered info. (Dr Pacheco)) nice introduction. Then Dr P proceeded to spray inside my nostrils with no prefacing that. Then scope placed inside right nostril - again no warning of that prior to insertion or reason for it. After that procedure I was told everything looked OK ! Very little explanation.Then esophagram ordered for next visit.

Dr DeSilva is very personable and easy to speak with. I was in his office for an annual checkup on my vocal chords. He had a resident physician working with him and she assisted with the exam under his supervision. Dr DeSilva took time to explain the procedure and the results as well as recommending a follow up date. He is an excellent physician!
