About Me
I am a general, forensic, and child and adolescent psychiatrist specializing in suicidal behavior as well as psychiatric emergencies. As a forensic psychiatrist, I perform civil and criminal psychiatric interviews and evaluations for the judicial system. My areas of forensic interest include medical malpractice and institutional negligence, sexual abuse and offending, mental illness and criminal offending, traumatic brain injury (TBI), PTSD, and risk assessment. I have extensive experience with psychiatric evaluations and have been qualified as an expert witness in a wide variety of courts across the US.
In my clinical work, I primarily provide psychiatric emergency services for adults, children, and adolescents and treat a wide variety of conditions, including anxiety, mood, and psychotic disorders, PTSD, somatic symptom disorders, and obsessive-compulsive disorders. I believe each of our patients at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center should be treated with the utmost respect, and I strive to provide the same quality of treatment I would want for a member of my family. I am very passionate about my work as this is an extremely exciting time to be a psychiatrist.
I am fortunate to work at an academic medical center such as Ohio State, where my colleagues share my goal of bringing state-of-the-art evaluation and treatment to the psychiatric emergency services, where patients and their families are often at their most vulnerable.
When I’m not working, I enjoy reading, traveling and spending time with family and friends and my dog, Esmeralda.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 09/30/2024, Dr. Ryan has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
