Biography
I specialize in treating infectious diseases and currently see patients in the ambulatory setting. I strive to provide the best care possible to achieve an optimal outcome. I will do all I can to help my patients resolve their health issues and will advocate for them every step of the way. Infections affect all body parts, and it’s a privilege to treat infectious diseases alongside exceptional colleagues in every department and division here at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
My experience includes serving as medical director of the Department of Clinical Epidemiology from 1997 through 2018, during which I helped lead efforts to protect patients, staff and visitors from communicable infections. I have also been honored to receive the Earl N. Metz Distinguished Physician Award from the Department of Internal Medicine, which recognizes excellence in patient care.
Educating the next generation of physicians has also been a privilege. I am now a Professor Emeritus of Internal Medicine, and I twice received the Excellence in Teaching Award granted by Infectious Disease fellows.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 11/3/2025, Dr. Mangino has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
