Biography
As a family medicine physician, I provide a comprehensive, holistic approach to health care for the entire family. I believe a strong physician-patient relationship founded on compassion is central to providing the highest quality care. I encourage my patients to ask questions and participate in developing their individualized treatment plans. I treat a wide range of conditions, but am especially interested in cardiology, diabetes, gynecologic care, hypertension, preventative medicine and women's health.
I enjoy working at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center because of the opportunity to serve my community in the dual role of physician and educator. At Ohio State, we enjoy access to a vast network of resources and educational opportunities to ensure our patients receive quality care for generations to come.
When I'm not working, I enjoy playing tennis, traveling and spending time with my family. My husband and I have two young boys who are active in the community. Most of the time our activities revolve around our kids.

My special interests are women's health, chronic medical problems and preventive medicine. I very much enjoy the dual role of being a faculty member and a physician at the Ohio State Medical Center. Outside of medicine, my family and I love to travel and spend time outdoors.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 11/3/2025, Dr. Shanker has reported no relationships with companies or entities.

She did not actually listen to what part of my symptoms was most concerning to me. She didn't ask questions about my symptoms, just make some general pronouncements and ordered a slew of blood work. That evening I spoke to a family member who is a physician and the difference was stark. He listens carefully and asked questions about my symptoms, trying to understand what I meant.

She was gruff, distracted, didn't answer my questions, dismissed my concerns, did not seem to remember me although I have been her patient for several years. She got up and left the room abruptly without comment and never returned. Very disturbing. Not at all like her usual demeanor and my usual appointment experience.
Dr.Shanker is and always hands down been the best doctor I've ver gone to. I've been her patient since I was 20 years old. She listens to me and takes my concerns seriously. I'm generally a very healthy person (physically) but lately I've been having troubles with my mental health due to excessive stress and life circumstances. Dr. Shanker did her best to find a solution for my ongoing anxiety and would reach out promptly when I messaged her on the patient portal. She goes above and beyond everyone.
