Biography
I’m a gastroenterologist who specializes in inflammatory bowel disease with a focus on how these chronic illnesses impact women specifically. Inflammatory bowel disease affects women in unique ways compared to men because it can worsen menstrual symptoms, lead to iron-deficiency anemia and even impact your chances of pregnancy during flare-ups.
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, I’m the director of women’s health in inflammatory bowel disease and the director of capsule endoscopy. I often use capsule endoscopy, a procedure that uses a wireless camera the size of a vitamin pill to check a patient’s gastrointestinal tract, to examine areas not easily seen with more traditional technology and to diagnose certain conditions. My research centers on these topics and has progressed to research trials in many instances.
When I’m not at work, I enjoy spending time with my family.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 11/3/2025, Dr. Butnariu has reported no relationships with companies or entities.

The provider was no concerned about treating symptoms I was concerned about and instead wanted to focus on an unrelated issue to my visit. Testing was order, which I am not upset about, but I am upset that I felt unheard and left the office with no relief. I asked a follow up question post visit thru my chart and did not receive a response until a week after I asked my question, and the response did not address my question or concern at all.
Too rushed. Didn't want to hear or take into account changes in symptoms since last clinic appt or intervening procedure. Felt recommended change in treatment was based on incomplete information. New procedure not well explained. Follow up in 4 months w APN didn't feel adequate to my situation.
Good! She is awesome!
Knew my health problems
Very professional and thorough
Dr. Butinaru knows everything about the issue I come to her for AND everything about my other health issues! She explains things well and takes time to see that I understand. She is a blessing to have as a doctor:
Awesome
I love Dr. B! She understands renal failure as much as she does Crohn's disease!! She asks me good questions and can always answer any of mine. She is a real blessing to me.

I have been very anxious over my diagnosis of scleroderma. Both physicians were knowledgeable and helped to ease my concerns by getting me in immediately for a test. They also discussed next steps with me. They were thorough.
Always very thorough and informative, caring and positive attitude.
Knew all my medical history.
She is really kind and listens. I appreciate her thoroughness and not ignoring my concerns/issues.
Dr. B was amazing. I felt for the first time in a long time I found a doctor who truly listened and walked through solutions and that she really cared about getting to the root cause.
She cares but is very busy!
Excellent care and attention to my questions
She is a good listener. And very caring for her patients..
Good
Dr Butnariu seems dedicated to best practices in IBD care and medical science but isn't always interesting in individual patients. At times, Dr B made insensitive remarks about my profession which was strange.
No bad experiences love Dr. B. She's so great!
