Biography

As a general and gastrointestinal surgeon, my focus is on minimally invasive surgery and surgical endoscopy. I perform a variety of procedures and enjoy meeting patients and participating in their treatment.

I encourage my patients to be aware of and remain active participants in their own care. This simple but important step can greatly improve their outcome, health and lifestyle.

In addition to clinical work, I am interested in many areas of research. This helps me to learn better ways to address the concerns of my patients. My research interests include minimally invasive surgery, surgical endoscopy, hernia and biliary disease.

I am part of a world-class professional team dedicated to excellent health care. The outstanding faculty and staff I work with each day are among the many things I enjoy about working at Ohio State.

After hours, I love to travel, read and attend Ohio State football games.

    Very professional and friendly.

Impressed with the surgeon's knowledge, concern, ability to expedite surgery. I felt in very good hands and was glad to have been referred to him.

When I worked as a social worker for over 25 years, treating people with dignity and respect came easily for me because my parents role modeled treating everyone with dignity and respect. Dr Nurula did not treat me in this manner. He made minimal eye contact and had a flat affect throughout the visit and was generally unpleasant. He also behaved in an unprofessional manner. For example, he didn't even have me sit on the exam table when he was examining my hernias. I felt sort of violated having to stand up from a side chair, drop my pants, and then get poked. When my gynecologist needs me to disrobe for an examination, the assistant gets me set up on the table with an appropriate gown or sheet before the doctor even comes in.

Can't say enough good things. Made me comfortable, explained my situation and what could be done. Definitely left feeling I was in his capable hands.
