Biography
As an obstetrician and gynecologist, I am passionate about helping patients during each major milestone of their lives. From the first Ob/Gyn visit to prenatal care to menopause, I appreciate the opportunity to establish lifelong connections with patients – supporting them through challenges and celebrating the highlights with them. I approach every patient with compassion and without judgment. My patients can rely on me to listen to their concerns, answer all their questions and offer guidance so we can decide on a treatment plan together.
In my role at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, I provide contraceptive and prenatal care for adults and adolescents. I treat patients for conditions including infertility, abnormal bleeding and sexually transmitted infections, and offer cervical cancer screenings and minimally invasive surgery. I also provide gender-affirming care and I am a passionate advocate for patients’ rights and autonomy.
When I’m not working, I love spending time with my family and friends. I enjoy hiking, traveling, visiting breweries, reading and do-it-yourself projects.

Academics and research
In addition to my clinical work, I enjoy teaching and mentoring future physicians. I am an assistant professor at Ohio State, and I am involved in medical student training in the hospital. I chose to continue my career at Ohio State because I have seen the excellent care offered to patients in an academic setting and I am proud to be part of such an esteemed institution. I also appreciate that my colleagues are a big family and that we show as much care for each other as we do for our patients.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.

Excellent
Dr. Matthews is personable and knowledgeable. She was on time for all of my prenatal visits but never made me feel rushed during appts. She expressed appropriate concern for my health without being overbearing or alarmist. While I ended up with her due to my choice of location alone, I will continue with Dr. Matthews even if she changes clinics and have recommended her to all of my friends in need of an OB-GYN.
Dr. Matthew's is helpful, respectful and always makes me feel heard. During difficult times in my pregnancy she was always there to answer questions and offer support. She is the best! I would recommend her to anyone.
I have never felt more comfortable at an OBGYN's office. When we discussed the issues I'd had with my IUD insertion and the need to switch it out at an upcoming appointment, I didn't even need to ask for additional pain management - she was the one who walked through my options and how they could make it a more comfortable experience for me. And interpersonally, I was immediately comfortable talking to her as a new patient. She has a very warm approach and as a member of the LGBTQ community, I was immediately comfortable with her.

Dr. Mathews was kind and demonstrated active listening. I like how she offers you her hand to help you up from lying down, it's very hard to sit up when pregnant.

Absolutely wonderful! This was my first visit with my healthcare provider and I felt very comfortable discussing my concerns. She made sure she explained everything and was very empathetic in her approach! She was very respectful of my concerns and spent a great time actively listening to all my queries. I would highly recommend my healthcare provider to my friends/ family!
The provider didn't seem to have much care or empathy for my concerns. She never even acknowledged the father of the child we were going to her for.

Dr. Matthews is always super friendly and knowledgeable. She always addresses any questions or concerns I have and never rushes through my appointments. I got so lucky to have her as my OB through my first pregnancy with my baby girl.
