Biography

I am a family medicine physician specializing in preventive care, chronic disease management and comprehensive primary care for patients of all ages. My practice at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center focuses on building long-term relationships with individuals and families while providing personalized care that supports patients’ lifelong health.

In addition to comprehensive primary care services, I perform a variety of office-based procedures, including skin biopsies, joint injections, incision and drainage procedures, cyst removal, Nexplanon® and intrauterine device (IUD) placement, wart removal, cryotherapy and Pap smears. These services allow me to provide convenient, comprehensive care for many common health concerns within the primary care setting.

One of the most rewarding aspects of family medicine is the opportunity to care for patients through every stage of life. Whether we are managing a chronic condition, addressing a new diagnosis or focusing on preventive wellness, I am committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care tailored to your unique needs, values and circumstances.

My path to family medicine began with a simple, enduring fascination: people. From an early age, I was drawn to the stories, resilience and unique experiences that shape every individual. I chose medicine not only because of the science behind it, but because it provides the opportunity to build meaningful human connections and help people navigate some of life's most important moments.

Family medicine allows me to practice listening. In a world that often moves quickly, I value taking the time to understand each person's background, goals and concerns. The relationships built through ongoing care are what make this profession meaningful to me and inspire me every day.

When you come to my office, you are more than a patient record. I see you as a partner in your healthcare journey. I believe exceptional care begins with empathy, trust and open communication. I strive to create a supportive, judgment-free environment where you feel heard, respected and empowered to make informed decisions about your health.

Academics and research

I am an assistant professor of Family and Community Medicine in The Ohio State University College of Medicine. I specialize in preparing future family medicine physicians to practice evidence-based medicine while fostering empathy, collaboration and meaningful patient relationships. My work focuses on medical education, physician training and also on advancing patient-centered care through teaching and mentorship.

As a residency core clinical faculty member, I am committed to creating a culture of continuous learning, collaboration and professional growth. Watching trainees develop confidence, form meaningful patient relationships and embrace patient-centered care reinforces my belief that education has a lasting impact far beyond the classroom or clinic.

My professional achievements include receiving the Family and Community Residency Excellence in Academics Award and the Courage to Teach recognition, both from The Ohio State University. I also served as the academic chief resident during my residency.

My journey in medicine has always been deeply connected to a passion for teaching. While caring for patients allows me to make an impact with one person at a time, my work as an educator and mentor broadens that impact because I help shape the next generation of physicians. Through both clinical practice and academic medicine, I have found opportunities to support learners as they develop the knowledge, skills and professional values needed to provide exceptional care.

Serving as an instructor and mentor has profoundly influenced my career. Teaching medical students and resident physicians encourages me to continually examine the reasoning behind clinical decisions, remain current with emerging evidence and refine my own approach to patient care. The thoughtful questions that trainees bring to the learning environment challenge me to stay intellectually curious and committed to lifelong learning.

One of my primary goals as an educator is to model the human side of medicine. I strive to demonstrate the importance of listening carefully, practicing compassion and engaging patients as active partners in their healthcare. Helping learners understand the value of trust, communication and shared decision-making is among the most rewarding aspects of my work.

Consulting and related relationships

At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.

As of 11/3/2025, Benjamin Lewis has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
