About Me

I am a surgical oncologist who treats patients suffering from breast cancer. My specialities include breast conservation surgery (lumpectomy/partial mastectomy with oncoplastic surgery), partial breast irradiation techniques (like intraoperative radiotherapy) and advanced mastectomy procedures, such as modified radical mastectomy and skin- and nipple-sparing mastectomy coordinated with breast-focused reconstructive plastic surgeons.

My goal is to always provide compassionate care that is personalized to every individual. During a woman or man’s journey through breast cancer, I aim to also be an educator and advocate. At The James, cancer treatment is delivered in a multidisciplinary approach in which surgeons work with other oncologists from the very beginning to strategize on the best course of care. This includes not just the medical or technical aspects of breast cancer treatment but also psychosocial and emotional support services and nutritional guidance, which are all important in increasing a patient's favorable outcome. All aspects of care are coordinated for an optimal patient experience.

As a member of the Cancer Control Program at the OSUCCC – James, I have an academic interest in disparities in breast cancer outcomes, with a focus on health disparities research. Breast cancer bestows a disproportionate disease burden on minority populations, and the specific factors leading to poorer outcomes and higher mortality are not understood. My current projects involve exploring disparities in the receipt of care throughout the breast cancer continuum, from screening to treatment. I am also developing studies to investigate the impact of biology in regards to breast tumors (i.e., triple negative subtype) and patient characteristics, such as metabolic syndrome and the possible influence on breast cancer outcomes. I also have an interest in international breast health and improving cancer care in developing countries.

In addition to my clinical and research work, I serve as deputy director of the Center for Cancer Health Equity at the OSUCCC – James and as an associate professor in the Division of Surgical Oncology at The Ohio State University College of Medicine.

I am honored to be part of a team that is filled with likeminded professionals and experts who are not only interested in state-of-the-art cancer treatment but also advancing our respective fields. The James offers tremendous resources that allow me to provide top-notch care and develop research that will give patients access to emerging therapies.
