About Me
I am a critical care physician who specializes in treating pulmonary diseases and caring for patients undergoing lung transplants at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. I believe in an evidence-based, multidisciplinary approach to providing optimal patient care.
I have been in academic institutions throughout my career, and I appreciate the focus on research-driven medical progress here at Ohio State. My patients can rely on me to offer advanced, innovative treatments to improve their outcomes.
Getting to know my patients and their families is the highlight of my day and it’s why I love my job. I am passionate about providing the best experience possible for each patient who comes to see me. I am also committed to being a great listener and I always take the time to thoroughly explain medical tests, procedures and recommended treatment plans.
In addition to my clinical responsibilities, my role includes helping prepare the next generation of physicians. I am the director of the Lung Transplant Fellowship program and a clinical assistant professor at The Ohio State University College of Medicine.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 09/30/2024, Dr. Small has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
