Biography
I became a neurological surgeon in order to solve complex challenges and help people achieve a higher quality of life. In my role at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, I specialize in treating spinal disorders and injuries.
My approach is to start with nonoperative or minimally invasive options whenever possible, but I also have extensive expertise performing both minimally invasive and traditional reconstructive spine surgery. My training further included a Spine Fellowship in Orthopedics, which enables me to help patients manage complex spinal deformities and those who have previously had spine surgery.
Patients can trust that I will take the time to ensure they understand their condition and all treatment options. I work with each person to develop a personalized care plan that works best for them.
In addition to my clinical responsibilities, my research focuses on strategies to improve outcomes for patients with spinal conditions. My work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and I have presented my findings at medical conferences around the country.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.

Dr Ladd took his time explaining what my issue was, offered treatment options and provided me with the next steps of my treatment plan. He had a conservative approach to my treatment plan, which I greatly appreciated!

This was my first time seeing this physician. He had me get X-rays for my back beforehand. He pulled up the X-ray and explained what was going on. He suggested surgery but explained that insurance would not cover unless I had physical therapy first.
Made me feel very comfortable and informed. Gave me great confidence In him going forward.

Great bedside manner; explains test results very well; appreciate the more realistic approach to need for surgery, length & challenges of recovery. Only area that I wish had been covered in more detail was consequences of not having surgery. I thought it would eliminate current problems but at end of appointment I learned it'll just keep it from getting worse. Based on previous spine surgery (not with this MD or hospital) pain & total failure, I'm not convinced I still go through another surgery. My bias as a patient is I want to hear it all straight out. I'm educated, strong & courageous; I can handle it. In some ways this MD excels. Maybe it's just the current medical system/model but it feels like the patient has to make these major decisions without all the important information & recommendations from the MD. I spend my time, money & very life relying on a MD. Too many MDs are compartmentalized & can't (or don't want to) be part of a team even when their part contributes to the whole of a patient's life.
