Biography

I am a cardiac surgeon specializing in complex cardiac surgery, aortic disease, heart transplantation and lung transplantation. My practice at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center focuses on surgically treating conditions including aortic aneurysms, aortic valve disease, mitral valve disease, atrial fibrillation, coronary artery disease and pulmonary embolism, with advanced care tailored to each patient's needs.

After completing extensive surgical residency and fellowship training, I developed expertise in heart and lung transplantation, general adult cardiac surgery, complex cardiac procedures; in aortic surgery including open and endovascular approaches; and also, in pulmonary thromboendarterectomy. This broad training enables me to offer advanced, evidence-based treatment options for patients facing a wide range of cardiovascular conditions.

I am committed to delivering care with technical precision, thoughtful clinical judgment and an unwavering focus on excellence. I take seriously the privilege and responsibility of caring for patients. Every patient is unique, and I believe in respecting each individual's dignity, values and goals throughout the treatment process.

My approach centers on compassionate, transparent and personalized care. I strive to build strong partnerships with patients and their families through open communication, patient education and shared decision-making, ensuring that they feel informed and supported. My academic training in a collaborative medical environment reinforced the importance of teamwork, innovation and continuous improvement in patient care. I am also passionate about education, and have mentored medical students, resident physicians and fellows in clinical and research settings. I value fostering critical thinking, technical excellence, professionalism and ethical patient care while helping prepare the next generation of cardiac surgeons.

Professional highlights include advanced training in cardiothoracic surgery and transplantation; research focused on clinical outcomes in cardiac and aortic surgery and the development of scientific models for neuroprotection; and induction into the Gold Humanism Honor Society in recognition of compassionate patient care and professionalism.

Academics and research

I am an assistant professor in the Department of Surgery at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, and my research focuses on improving outcomes for patients with complex cardiovascular disease through clinically relevant investigation and surgical innovation. I specialize in cardiac and aortic surgery research, transplantation science and the study of strategies that advance patient safety and long-term surgical outcomes.

I am board-certified by the American Board of Surgery. My research is driven by a commitment to translating research discoveries into meaningful improvements in patient care. I am particularly interested in understanding factors that influence outcomes in cardiac and aortic surgery and in using rigorous scientific methods to identify opportunities for better treatment approaches.

My previous research has included the evaluation of clinical outcomes in cardiac and aortic surgery as well as the development of scientific models designed to better understand neuroprotection. These experiences continue to shape my interest in advancing knowledge that can directly benefit patients undergoing complex cardiovascular procedures.

As a surgeon-scientist, I value collaboration across disciplines and believe that research and clinical care are most impactful when they inform one another. My academic efforts focus on generating evidence that supports thoughtful decision-making, advances surgical practice and ultimately improves the lives of patients with cardiovascular disease.

I am also passionate about education and mentorship. Working with medical students, resident physicians and fellows allows me to help cultivate the next generation of physicians and investigators. Through research and training, I strive to foster critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, professionalism and a commitment to lifelong learning.

Consulting and related relationships

At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.

As of 11/3/2025, Christian Ghincea has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
