Biography
As an ophthalmologist, I specialize in diseases of the cornea and external eye. I walk through available treatment options with patients and create an individualized care plan that could involve medication, an in-office procedure, or even surgery to relieve symptoms and help them get back to enjoying life. It's really rewarding when we find the best solution for the patient and even more so when I hear words of gratitude or receive a kind thank you note.
I love working at Ohio State because we have limitless opportunity for collaboration to handle complex cases, in addition to the latest treatments and newest equipment.
Common procedures I perform include cataract surgery, corneal transplantation (including PKP, DALK, DSEK, and DMEK), pterygium excision, corneal cross-linking for keratoconus, limbal stem cell transplants, and surgical excision of ocular surface neoplasia. In addition to my treatment of adult patients, I also treat cornea conditions in younger patients at the Eye Clinic at Nationwide Children's Hospital.
In my free time, I read fiction, am actively involved in my church, and spend time with my family.

Consulting and related relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.

Excellent care. Professional. Caring, kind, and competent
I would have liked more information for extended treatment needed.
Dr. Martinez was so nice and saw me even though I was late because of missing our exit off the Interstate. She is very concerned about my eye infection and is trying her best to figure out what's going on.
