Biography

After completing my residency training, I took a position with The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy where I practiced at two federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) in the Columbus area. I provided care to underserved populations with a focus on chronic disease state education and management, as well as helping patients overcome medication access barriers. In 2017, I joined the Department of Family & Community Medicine, continuing to serve the underserved populations of Columbus and assisting with improving patient access to care by converting existing clinics into FQHCs.

I am passionate about teaching and enjoy spending time with patients to ensure they fully understand their disease states and medications. I also precept students, residents, and fellows from various health professions. Specializing in diabetes management and the use of diabetes-related technology, I frequently provide lectures in classrooms and deliver educational presentations around the country. I am also interested in all aspects of cardiovascular risk reduction.

When caring for patients, I listen to their concerns and use shared decision-making to help them achieve optimal wellness. I practice evidence-based medicine to ensure the right medicines are used for the right reasons in the right patients, and I often work with patients to reduce medications when possible.

Outside of my primary role as a pharmacist, I serve as a Buckeye Wellness Innovator to promote health and wellness within the workplace. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with friends and family. My hobbies include pickleball, sand volleyball, board and card games, traveling to new places, and cheering on the Columbus Crew and Buckeyes.

Consulting and Related Relationships

At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.

As of 11/3/2025, Dr. Westrick has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
