Physician, Professor
Ophthalmology - Retina, Ophthalmology
Department: Ophthalmology
I am a board-certified ophthalmologist at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. I specialize in retinal diseases and ocular oncology, including the diagnosis and treatment of eye cancers and hereditary eye conditions.
My patients can rely on me for expert, compassionate care and clear communication. I collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure each patient receives personalized treatment that supports their vision and overall health.
In addition to my clinical work, I serve as a professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, where I lead research in ocular melanoma and retinal disease.
Please note: Not all physicians schedule patients at each listed location.
I am a member of the Cancer Biology Program at the OSUCCC - James, where my research is focused on retinal detachments and uveal melanoma.
My research team has identified that over 10 percent of patients with uveal melanoma have a heritable cancer syndrome. With this understanding, my team seeks to identify the genes responsible for increased cancer in these families and have even identified a new cancer syndrome caused by mutation in the BAP1 gene.
I have co-authored dozens of articles in well-respected journals such as Ocular Oncology and Pathology, Familial Cancer, Experimental Neurology, and Genes, Chromosomes and Cancer.
Characterization of the role of MIF on retinal health and disease

The goal is to define the important functional relationships between MIF, signaling pathways, glia-mediated neuronal survival, and genome-wide transcriptional switches during retinal damage to set the stage for future studies targeting key molecular pathways to prevent and recover visual loss from retinal damage.

At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
