Biography
I specialize in treating shoulder, elbow and knee disorders and injuries for all age groups and advocate for treating orthopedic injuries in the least invasive way possible. It starts with looking at non-operative approaches and, if surgery is needed, we use the most minimally invasive arthroscopic techniques.
I enjoy teaching medical students, residents and fellows about the newest advances in keeping joints healthy and functioning. As an outdoor enthusiast, I'm passionate about getting individuals back to the physical activities they enjoy and sharing this passion with future physicians. Additionally, I’ve spent time in South America, Japan and Europe giving lectures and observing local orthopedic surgeries.
In my spare time, I enjoy extreme skiing and mountain biking. I have completed Colorado’s Leadville 100 Mile Mountain Bike Race, widely regarded as the top and most grueling mountain bike race in North America, as well as New York’s Whiteface Mountain/Wilmington 100K mountain bike race multiple times.

Academics and research
I am a board certified orthopedic surgeon at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center with a sub specialization in shoulders and elbows. I was born, raised and now lives in Upper Arlington, Ohio with my family where I remain actively involved with the local community.
As a collegiate athlete, I earned scholastic and performance accolades that have continued into my professional career. Time Magazine selected me for its Achievement Award as one of the Top 20 College students in the nation in 1987. I was awarded the 2007 Ohio Athletic Trainers Association Team Physician of the Year Award. In 2015, I was inducted into the Capitol One/CoSida NCAA Academic All-American Hall-of-Fame. In addition to my service as an orthopaedic consultant for Ohio State’s varsity athletic teams, I am Head Team Physician for the Columbus Clippers (Triple-A Affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians), Columbus Destroyers (Arena League Football) and the Upper Arlington City School District.
My industry involvement is extensive. I regularly speak nationally and internationally, including multiple trips to South America, Europe and Japan. I have served on multiple AOSSM committees, as a reviewer for CORR, AJSM, JBJS, JSES, and OJSM journals and as the Editor of AOSSM’s Sports Medicine Update. I am a member of both the prestigious Magellan Society and the Herodicus Society.
After participating in the AOSSM Traveling Fellowship to South America in 2008, I continue to foster the exchange of scientific information by regularly hosting international fellows at the Jameson Crane Sports Medicine Institute.
My research encompasses multi-center work, funded grants and projects with Major League Baseball. Most notably, I am a two-time Neer Award recipient, a founding member of the Multi-Center Outcomes Network (MOON) Shoulder Group producing some of the top research in the field of shoulder surgery and an investigator in the Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair Trial (ARC Trial), the largest randomized trial ever performed in Orthopaedic Surgery.
